Written by Barrister-At-Law H. Kendra Baker, in his Preface he states that he is 'indebted for most of his material to W. Hepworth Dixon, Barrister at law, whose researches into the Parliamentary and State Papers of the period first brought to light certain facts, long forgotten, if ever generally known, surrounding the "fall" of Francis Bacon, Lord High Chancellor of England.' It was Kendra Baker's 'earnest hope that a perusal of the following pages may remove from the name and memory of one of our greatest Englishmen a wholly unmerited stain'.

An excellent summary of the political intrigues and personal jealous rivalries that brought about the downfall of Sir Francis Bacon.
